City Planners Look into the Wireless Networking Future
Wireless Network conference provides solutions to city leader's most challenging issues

(Irvine, Calif. - September 23, 2006) - The Municipal Wireless Network. Is it a magic bullet? A digital fad? The next technical revolution? Whatever your perception, hundreds of municipal leaders are turning to these citywide wireless networks to bolster economic development, increase public & community safety and improve the quality of life for its citizenry. But as the global trend towards Municipal Wireless Networks expands, there are still several unanswered questions regarding both pre and post deployment of the network. In response to these issues, The Wireless City LLC is hosting its Fall Conference on October 11th entitled, How the Wireless Age Will Stimulate Economic Development through Empowered Digital Communities, host sponsored by Strix Systems, the leader in high-performance wireless mesh networking.

The Municipal Wireless Network industry has passed through its infancy and today is enabling cities to achieve their goals. Citywide wireless access is one of the most sought after selling points for new home buyers and is a mandatory requirement for the expansion of some larger companies. The community benefits are enormous - better informed citizenry, increased public & community safety and new municipal revenue streams are just the beginning. However, as with all new technologies, there are challenges. Some debate revolves around the ownership of these networks; whether it should be a public, private or combined endeavor. What is a city's responsibility regarding access, content and security on the new network? How should revenues be raised from the network, through partnerships or through collection?

The goal of The Wireless City's Fall Conference is to address these and many more issues in a day-long conference featuring presentations from some of the top experts in the wireless networking and related industries. Real life case-studies, panel discussions and a product showcase will aim to answer all of the questions city planners and managers have about deploying their own Municipal Wireless Network. Host sponsor Strix Systems will provide insight from its numerous municipal/metropolitan wireless deployments, including Tempe, Arizona, which is the largest wireless mesh network in the country. The Wireless City's 2006 Fall Conference will be held on October 11th at The Center Club in Costa Mesa, Calif. from 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM. Attendance to the conference is by invitation only and is intended for city officials considering a Municipal Wireless Network or currently involved in the deployment of a network. A continental breakfast, full lunch and valet parking are complimentary to all attendees of the conference.
